Abstract

"PIGMENTO DE ARGILA DE CAULIM PARA O USO EM UMA FORMULAçãO DE REVESTIMENTO PARA PAPEL, PAPEL REVESTIDO COM O PIGMENTO DE ARGILA DE CAULIM, COMPOSIçãO DE REVESTIMENTO DE PAPEL, E, PROCESSO PARA A PRODUçãO DE UM PIGMENTO DE ARGILA DE CAULIM COM PROPRIEDADES REOLóGICAS MELHORADAS". Um pigmento de argila de caulim compreende uma argila de caulim grossa ou uma mistura de uma argila de caulim grossa com uma argila de caulim fina. A argila de caulim é submetida à remoção de finos para dar uma fração de grossos e uma fração de finos. A fração de finos é descartada e a fração de grossos em geral possuirá partículas "em blocos" em sua extremidade de grossos e partículas "em placas" em sua extremidade de finos com um fator de formato total maior do que 12. Se a fração de grossos, cujos finos foram removidos, for fluida em 65% a 75% de sólidos, então ela é usada como tal como o pigmento de caulim. Se não for fluida, ela é misturada com uma argila de caulim fina em quantidades variando de 0,1% a 30,0% em peso da mistura. A fração de grossos possui um índice de cristalinidade de Hinckley maior do que 0,6 e a argila de caulim fina possui um índice de cristalinidade de Hinckley menor do que 0,5. O pigmento possui um brilho G.E. de 90,5 e uma distribuição de tamanho de partícula tal que pelo menos 90% em peso das partículas possui um e.s.d < 2 Ám e 30% em peso das partículas possui um e.s.d < 0,25 micrómetro. Em 65% a 75% de sólidos, a viscosidade Hercules é maior do que 250 rpm a 18 dinas e quando utilizado em uma formulação de revestimento, exibe melhorados brilho de folha, lustre de folha, opacidade de folha e lustre de impressão.
