Description
この出願は、係属中の「Lightweight Radiation Protective Articles And Methods For Making Them」という名称の2002年9月9日付の出願第10/238,160号の部分係属出願であり、この出願自身は、2001年8月27日に出願され2002年10月1日に米国特許第6,459,091号として発行された「Lightweight Radiation Protective Garments」という名称の出願第09/940,681号の部分継続出願であり、さらにこの出願は、1998年12月7日に出願され2001年8月28日に米国特許第6,281,515号として発行された「Lightweight Radiation Protective Garments」という名称の出願第09/206,671号の部分継続出願であった。
本発明は、布地、化合物、およびフィルム層を含む物品に関し、放射線、化学品、生物剤、金属飛来物および火炎などの生命を脅かす危険に対する防護をもたらすことができる物品に関する。いくつかの実施の形態において、本発明の布地およびフィルムは、複数種の危険に対する防護と優れた熱放散特性とを備える衣類を製造するために使用される。
今日においては、深刻な傷害や死亡でさえ引き起こしかねないような多くの種類の危険が存在する。これらの危険には、放射線、腐食性または毒性の化学品、感染性の生物剤、弾丸や爆発物の破片などの金属飛来物、および火炎などがある。これらの危険の多くは以前から知られていたが、2001年9月11日のワールド・トレード・センターへのテロ攻撃を含む近年のテロリストたちの活動に照らし、これらに対する防護がより火急かつ困難になっている。
本発明は、布地およびフィルム層を含む物品であって、放射線、化学品、生物剤、金属飛来物および火災の危険を含む複数の危険に対する防護が可能な物品に向けられている。いくつかの実施の形態において、本発明の布地およびフィルムは、複数種の危険に対する防護と優れた熱放散特性とを有する衣類の製造に使用される。他の実施の形態においては、この防護性の布地またはフィルムを、ポンチョ、保護用テント、核物質検出プローブ、壁紙、家屋の羽目板、屋根材、家屋の基礎用複合材、あるいは商用航空機の客室、空港のスキャナ、食品照射装置またはX線室の裏打ち材の製造に使用することができる。さらに、本発明の材料を、塗料または被覆に取り入れることができ、幅広い種類の表面に適用することができる。
Claims (35)
- 軽量熱放散性衣類における使用のための放射線防護用複合布地であって、該放射線防護用複合布地が、
2つの布地層、および
放射線防護用重合体混合物、
を含み、該放射線防護用重合体混合物が、液状の重合体フィルムとしての塗布により該2つの布地層の間を接着し、それによって該2つの布地層の間にサンドイッチされており、

放射線防護用複合布地。 - 前記放射線防護用重合体混合物が、タングステンおよび/または硫酸バリウムを含んでいる請求項1に記載の放射線防護用布地。
- 前記重合体混合物が、50重量%超の放射線防護材料および50重量%未満のポリマーを含む請求項2に記載の放射線防護用布地。
- 前記ポリマーが、エチルビニルアセテートおよびポリエチレンからなる群から選択される請求項1に記載の放射線防護用布地。
- 前記放射線防護用重合体混合物が、約75重量%のタングステン、約20重量%の硫酸バリウム、および約5重量%のビスマスを含む請求項1に記載の放射線防護用布地。
- 前記布地の層が、織布および不織布からなる群から選択される請求項1に記載の放射線防護用布地。
- 前記織布が、織った布である請求項6に記載の放射線防護用布地。
- 前記不織布が、高速紡ぎのポリエチレンを含んでいる請求項6に記載の放射線防護用布地。

放射線防護材料および熱放散材料の両者を、ポリマーと混合し、重合体混合物を生成する工程であって、

- 前記放射線防護材料が、前記重合体混合物の少なくとも50重量%を構成する請求項28に記載の方法。
- 前記重合体混合物中に複数の前記放射線防護材料をさらに含んでいる請求項28に記載の方法。
- 布地の前記シートの1つ以上が、飛来物の貫通に対する耐性を有している請求項28に記載の方法。
- 前記耐飛来物貫通布地が、アラミド繊維および/またはポリエチレン繊維を含んでいる請求項32に記載の方法。
- 布地の前記シートの1つ以上が、耐火性の布地である請求項28に記載の方法。
- 前記耐火性の布地が、アラミド繊維および/またはポリテトラフルオロエチレンを含んでいる請求項34に記載の方法。
