Description
絶縁性粉末は、電極及び/又は分離膜の表面上に分布して正極及び負極の直接的な接触を防止でき、仮に接触しても非電導性物質、すなわち絶縁性を有する物質であれば、その形態、含量、構造などに特別に制限がない。
上記のように、絶縁性粉末が散布された分離膜及び/又は電極は、公知の通常の組立方法により電極組立体として組立できる。組立方法の非制限的な例としては、積層(lamination, stack)、折り畳み(folding)、巻取り(winding)などが挙げられる。
このとき、電解質としては、有機溶媒に電解質塩を溶解させた非水電解液、高分子に電解質塩を固溶したり電解質塩を溶解させた有機溶媒を支持させた高分子ゲル電解質、又は高分子固体電解質などを制限無しに使用できる。
上記のような過程を経たリチウム二次電池は、選択的に電池のフォーメーション工程及びエージング(aging)工程を経ることができ、以後に密封することで完了される。このとき、フォーメーション工程は、電池組立の後に充電及び放電を繰返して電池を活性化するもので、充放電の実施により負極におけるSEI膜の形成がなされる。また、エージング工程は、上記のように活性化した電池を一定期間放置することで安定化させるものである。
LiMn2O4 90wt%、導電剤としてスーパー−p 5wt%及び結着剤としてPVDF 5wt%を混合し、N−メチル−2−ピロリドン(NMP)に添加してスラリーを製造した後、アルミニウム箔にコートしてから、130℃で乾燥して正極を製造した。
負極表面の代りに正極の表面上にTiO2絶縁性粉末を散布した以外は、前記実施例1と同様な方法により、リチウム二次電池を製造した。
負極表面の代りに分離膜の表面上にTiO2絶縁性粉末を散布した以外は、前記実施例1と同様な方法により、リチウム二次電池を製造した。
(フルセル用電極の製造)
最外角フルセルの最外角に位置する正極及び負極は、アルミニウム箔の一面のみにスラリーをコートして単面コートされた電極を製造し、内部に位置するフルセルの正極及び負極は、アルミニウム箔の両面にスラリーをコートして両面コートされた電極を製造した。
微細多孔性ポリプロピレンフィルムを第1の高分子分離膜とし、ソルベイポリマー(Solvey Polymer)社のポリフッ化ビニリデン−クロロトリフルオロエチレン共重合体32008をゲル化二次高分子とする多層高分子フィルムを製造した。
両面コートされた正極及び負極をタブ割当て部分を除いて切断した後、正極上にTiO2粉末を10重量部程度散布し、正極及び負極間に分離膜を位置させた後、100℃のロールラミネーターに通過させて、各電極及び分離膜を熱融着して、内部フルセルを製造した。

上記のように製造されたフルセルを、最外角フルセル、内部フルセル、最外角フルセルの順に位置させるが、単面コートされた電極のうち、電極集電体が最外角に位置するようにした。以後、各フルセルの積層面にTiO2粉末を10重量部程度散布させ、分離膜を位置させた後、100℃のロールラミネーターに通過させて接合させた。前記製造された電極組立体を電池ケースに投入した後、製造された電解液を注入した。
電極の表面上にTiO2絶縁性粉末を散布させない以外は、前記実施例1と同様な方法によりリチウム二次電池を製造した。
前記実施例1〜実施例3及び比較例1で製造されたリチウム二次電池の短絡発生率及び低電圧不良率の評価を、次のように実施した。
電池組立工程時、電極の積層工程の後にバイセルの抵抗をそれぞれ測定して、短絡発生率を判定した。このとき、バイセル抵抗値は正極及び負極端子間の抵抗を測定したものである。バイセル抵抗が100 Mohm未満である場合を短絡として判定した。これらの結果を以下の表1に示した。
各電池を500mAで4.2Vまで充電し、電流3000mAで終止電圧2.5Vで放電して、初期充放電を実施した。以後、電流3000mAで上限電圧4.2Vまで充電し、2.5V終止電圧で放電する充放電を5サイクル遂行し、5サイクルの放電容量を測定した。以後、50%充電状態で電圧を測定し、50%充電状態で2週後の電圧降下を測定し、2週後20mV以上の電圧降下が発生したことを低電圧不良としてチェックした。
前記実施例1〜実施例3及び比較例1で製造されたリチウム二次電池の容量を、次のように比較した。
Claims (12)
- (a)他の補助部材を含むことなく、正極、負極及び分離膜の一つ以上の表面の一部又は全部に、絶縁性粉末を散布する段階と、
(b)前記正極、前記負極及び前記分離膜を用いて電極組立体を形成する段階と、及び、
(c)前記電極組立体をケース内に投入し、前記ケースを密封する段階を含んでなり、
前記段階(b)が、正極及び負極間に分離膜を介在させた後、熱融着により電極組立体を形成することを特徴とする、リチウム二次電池の製造方法。 - 前記絶縁性粉末が、不導体又は半導体粒子であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。
- 前記絶縁性粉末が、MgO、TiO2、Li4Ti5O12、ZrO2、InSnO2、Al2O3、SiO2、GeO2、MoO、SnO、Cr2O3及びSb2O3−SnO2からなる群より選択されてなることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。
- 前記絶縁性粉末の粒径が、20nm〜1μmであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。
- 前記絶縁性粉末層の厚さが、20nm〜5μmであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。
- 前記絶縁性粉末が、微細網又は振動ふるい器により導入されることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。
- 前記絶縁性粉末の単位面積当たり使用量が、2μg/cm2〜50mg/cm2であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。
- 前記熱融着温度が、60〜100℃であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。
- 前記電極組立体が、
(i)第1の電極、第1の分離膜及び第2の電極からなるフルセル、
(ii)第1の電極、第1の分離膜、第2の電極、第2の分離膜及び第1の電極からなるバイセル、及び、
(iii)前記フルセル又は前記バイセルを単位セルとして2つ以上使用するスタックセルからなる群から選択されてなる何れかの一つと、及び、各単位セル間に第3の分離膜をさらに備えてなることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の製造方法。 - ケース内に受容した電極組立体を備えてなるリチウム二次電池であって、
前記電極組立体が二以上の単位セルを含んでなるものであり、
各単位セルが、
(i)第1の電極、第1の分離膜及び第2の電極からなるフルセル、又は、
(ii)第1の電極、第1の分離膜、第2の電極、第2の分離膜及び第1の電極からなるバイセルを備えてなり、及び
単位セル間に第3の分離膜をさらに備えてなり、
他の補助部材を含むことなく、第1の電極、第2の電極、第1の分離膜、第2の分離膜及び第3の分離膜の一つ以上の表面の一部又は全部に、絶縁性粉末が散布されてなり、
前記電極組立体が、絶縁性粉末が散布された後、分離膜と熱融着されることを特徴とする、リチウム二次電池。 - 前記第1の分離膜〜第3の分離膜の一つ以上は、
(a)微細多孔性分離膜、又は、
(b)単面又は両面上にゲル化高分子コーティング層が形成された微細多孔性分離膜であることを特徴とする、請求項10に記載のリチウム二次電池。 - リチウム高分子電池であることを特徴とする、請求項10に記載のリチウム二次電池。
