Abstract
【解決手段】触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置(12)は、ホストコンピュータ(14)と通信を行い、ユーザによるインタフェース装置への操作を検出するセンサ(112)装置、入力信号に対応して、アクチュエータの移動により生じた力をユーザに出力する電気活性ポリマーアクチュエータを含む。出力された力はユーザに触覚的な感覚を与える。EAPアクチュエータを採用する様々な実施例が記載され、含まれている実施例は、直接的に力を与えるもの、慣性力を与えるもの、ブレーキ力を与えるものがある。

Description
電気活性ポリマー(EAP)は、広い範囲の物理的、電気的、電気工学的な振る舞い、特性を示すように作られ処理されたポリマーの種類である。
EAPアクチュエータおよびセンサは、種々の異なる方法で構成しうる。そのうちのいくつかの構成を以下に記載する。
触覚装置におけるEAPアクチュエータおよびセンサのために検討される主要な用途の種類は、振動アクチュエータ、直線的アクチュエータ、回転アクチュエータ、ブレーキ、およびその他の用途である。これらの種類の多くは、与えられる本発明の触覚装置の実施例において以下に記載されている。

Claims (35)
- ユーザにより操作され、ホスト・アプリケーション・プログラムを実行するホストコンピュータと通信を行う触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置であって、
前記ユーザに物理的に接触する装置筐体と、
前記ユーザによる前記インタフェース装置の前記操作を検出して、前記操作に対応するセンサ信号を出力するセンサ装置と、
アクチュエータの運動により生じる、前記ユーザに触覚的な感覚を与える力を、前記ユーザに出力する、コンピュータ制御電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータとを備えるインタフェース装置。 - 前記の力を前記ホストコンピュータにより実行されるイベントまたは相互作用に関連づける請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータによる前記力の出力は、慣性質量を移動することにより生ずる慣性力である請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- ボタンを備え、前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、前記ボタンを移動することにより前記の力を前記ユーザに出力する請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記ボタンは、該ボタンの動き自由度内で移動させられる請求項4に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記ボタンは、該ボタンの動き自由度と略直角である、横方向に沿って移動させられる請求項4に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータによる前記力の出力は、回転力である請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータによる前記力の出力は、直線的な力である請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマーは、前記触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置の前記装置筐体部分を移動する請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマーは、前記インタフェース装置の可動部分に対するブレーキシューを動かして、該可動部分に対する抵抗を生ずる請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマーは、前記ユーザが前記インタフェース装置の回転ホイールに接触したとき触感的な感覚を与える請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、部材を直接移動して前記ユーザの皮膚に接触しまたは皮膚を摺ることにより、前記ユーザに触感的な感覚を与える請求項8に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、触感アレイを配置する前記インタフェース装置の複数の前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータの1つである請求項12に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記インタフェース装置は、スタイラスを含む請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記インタフェース装置は、トラックポイント・ジョイスティック・コントローラを含む請求項1に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- ユーザにより操作され、ホスト・アプリケーション・プログラムを実行するホストコンピュータと通信を行う触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置であって、
前記ユーザによる前記インタフェース装置の前記操作を検出して、前記操作に対応するセンサ信号を出力するセンサ装置と、
入力電気信号によって制御されたアクチュエータの運動により生じる、前記ユーザに触覚的な感覚を与える力を、前記ユーザに出力する電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータとを備えたインタフェース装置。 - 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータによる前記力の出力は、慣性質量を移動することにより生ずる慣性力である請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- ボタンを備え、前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、前記ボタンを移動することにより前記の力を前記ユーザに出力する請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータによる前記力の出力は、回転力である請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータによる前記力の出力は、直線的な力である請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、前記アクチュエータに含まれる電気活性ポリマー材料の少なくとも2つのレイヤによって曲がる請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、2つの電極に囲まれた誘電体を含み、前記誘電体は電気信号に制御されて面積が拡大する請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマーは、前記触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置の前記装置筐体部分を動かす請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマーは、前記インタフェース装置の可動部分に対するブレーキシューを動かして、該可動部分に対する抵抗を生ずる請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、部材を直接移動して前記ユーザの皮膚に接触しまたは皮膚を摺ることにより、前記ユーザに触感的な感覚を与える請求項16に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- ユーザにより操作され、ホスト・アプリケーション・プログラムを実行するホストコンピュータと通信を行う触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置であって、
前記ユーザに物理的に接触する装置筐体と、
前記インタフェース装置の操作体の操作を検出して、前記操作に対応するセンサ信号を出力し、電気活性ポリマー素子の運動により生じ、前記ユーザに触覚的な感覚を与える力を入力信号に応じて前記ユーザに出力する電気活性ポリマー素子とを備えるインタフェース装置。 - 前記電気活性ポリマー素子は、前記ユーザと前記操作体との接触を検知する請求項26に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー素子は、前記ユーザにより前記電気活性ポリマー素子に加えた圧力量を検知する請求項26に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記電気活性ポリマーによる前記力の出力は、直線的な力である請求項26に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- 前記インタフェース装置は、ジョイスティックまたはトラックポイント・コントローラを含む請求項26に記載の触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置。
- ユーザにより操作され、ホスト・アプリケーション・プログラムを実行するホストプロセッサに接続されるインタフェース装置のユーザに触覚的な感覚を出力する方法であって、
前記ユーザによる前記インタフェース装置の前記操作を検出して、前記操作に対応するセンサ信号を出力し、
電気活性アクチュエータに信号を送信することにより、前記アクチュエータの運動により生じた、前記ユーザに触覚的な感覚を与える力を、前記電気活性アクチュエータを使用するユーザに出力することを備える方法。 - 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、回転力を出力する請求項31に記載の方法。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、直線的な力を出力する請求項31に記載の方法。
- 前記電気活性ポリマー・アクチュエータは、前記インタフェース装置の可動部分に対するブレーキ部材を動かして、該可動部分に対する抵抗を生ずる請求項31に記載の方法。
- 前記電気活性ポリマーは、前記触覚フィードバック・インタフェース装置の前記装置筐体部分を移動して、前記ユーザに前記の力を与える請求項31に記載の方法。
