Abstract
Description
本出願は、米国仮出願第60/568,373号(2004年5月5日出願)および米国仮出願第60/636,123号(2004年12月15日出願)に対する優先権を主張するものであり、それぞれの出願の内容は、本明細書に参考として、援用される。
固体発光デバイスは、発光ダイオード(LED)および共振空洞LED(RCLED)を有する固体ランプを含め、非常に有用である。なぜなら、これらデバイスは、従来の白熱灯や蛍光灯に比べ、安価な製造コストおよび長期間にわたる耐久性のメリットを提供する可能性があるからである。固体発光デバイスの初期コストが、従来のランプの初期コストに比べ、高い場合であっても、その動作(燃焼)時間が長く、消費電力も少ないために、しばしば、機能面でコストメリットを提供する。大規模な半導体製造技術が用いられ得るので、多くの固体ランプは、非常に低コストで製造され得る。
このニーズおよび他のニーズに対応するため、また、この目的を考慮して、本発明は、発光装置を提供する。この発光装置は、発光用の光源と、発光を受け、その発光を透過光(すなわち順方向透過光)および反射光(すなわち逆方向透過光)に変換するダウンコンバージョン材料と、(a)ダウンコンバージョン材料の上に発光を収集し、移送するように、かつ、(b)反射光を受け、その反射光を光学デバイスの外側に移送するように構成された光学デバイスとを備える。
Claims (27)
- 発光用の光源と、
該発光を受け、該発光を透過光および逆方向透過光に変換するダウンコンバージョン材料と、
光学デバイスであって、該逆方向透過光を受け、該逆方向透過光を該光学デバイスの外側に移送するように構成された光学デバイスと
を備える、発光装置。 - 前記光源は、発光ダイオード(LED)、レーザーダイオード(LD)または共振空洞発光ダイオード(RCLED)のうちの1つを含む半導体発光ダイオードである、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、1つのスペクトル領域内で光を吸収し、別のスペクトル領域内で発光する蛍光体または他の材料のうちの1つを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、光透過材料を含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、光透過特性を有するレンズまたは光ガイドのうちの少なくとも1つを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、前記光源から前記ダウンコンバージョン材料の方向に前記発光を向けるように、さらに構成される、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、前記光源から前記ダウンコンバージョン材料の方向に前記発光の実質上全てを向けるための、レンズまたは光ガイドのうちの1つを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光源は、前記光学デバイスの第一の端に隣接して配置される、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、前記光学デバイスの第二の端に隣接して配置され、該第二の端は前記第一の端と向かい合う側である、請求項8に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、前記光学デバイスからの反射光を透過するように幾何学的に構成される、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光源は、複数の半導体発光体を含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、前記光学デバイスの前記第二の端の一部の上に堆積される、請求項9に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、前記光学デバイスの前記第二の端を実質的に覆うよう堆積される、請求項12に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスから外へ移送される前記反射光を収集する収集デバイスを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記収集デバイスは、前記反射光を該収集デバイスから離れるように向ける反射板を含む、請求項14に記載の発光装置。
- (a)前記光源は、前記光学デバイスの第一の端に隣接して配置され、
(b)前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、該光学デバイスの第二の端に隣接して配置され、
(c)該光学デバイスの該第一の端は、前記反射板の第一の端に隣接して配置される、
請求項15に記載の発光装置。 - 前記光学デバイスの幾何学的形状は、円錐、球、双曲線、放物線、楕円、角錐または箱型形状のうちの1つを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスの少なくとも一部を取り囲む反射板と、該反射板の少なくとも一部の上部に配置された光ディフューザとをさらに備える、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、前記光源と前記反射板との間に配置され、該ダウンコンバージョン材料は、湾曲形状を有する、請求項18に記載の発光装置。
- 光透過材料を含む円筒光学素子と、
該円筒光学素子内に配置された光放射源と、
該円筒光学素子の中間部分でその内部に配置され、該光放射源によって伝送された光の透過または反射のうちの少なくとも一方のためのダウンコンバージョン材料と
を備える、発光装置。 - 前記光放射源は、発光ダイオード(LED)、レーザーダイオード(LD)または共振空洞発光ダイオード(RCLED)のうちの1つを含む半導体発光体である、請求項20に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光放射源は、前記円筒光学素子の一つの側面端に隣接して配置される、請求項20に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光放射源は、互いに間隔を空けた第一の放射源と第二の放射源とを含み、その双方は、前記円筒光学素子の一つの側面端に近接して配置される、請求項20に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、1つのスペクトル領域内で光を吸収し、別のスペクトル領域で発光する蛍光体または他の材料のうちの1つを含む、請求項20に記載の発光装置。
