Description
本出願は、米国仮出願第60/568,373号(2004年5月5日出願)および米国仮出願第60/636,123号(2004年12月15日出願)に対する優先権を主張するものであり、それぞれの出願の内容は、本明細書に参考として、援用される。
固体発光デバイスは、発光ダイオード(LED)および共振空洞LED(RCLED)を有する固体ランプを含め、非常に有用である。なぜなら、これらデバイスは、従来の白熱灯や蛍光灯に比べ、安価な製造コストおよび長期間にわたる耐久性のメリットを提供する可能性があるからである。固体発光デバイスの初期コストが、従来のランプの初期コストに比べ、高い場合であっても、その動作(燃焼)時間が長く、消費電力も少ないために、しばしば、機能面でコストメリットを提供する。大規模な半導体製造技術が用いられ得るので、多くの固体ランプは、非常に低コストで製造され得る。
このニーズおよび他のニーズに対応するため、また、この目的を考慮して、本発明は、発光装置を提供する。この発光装置は、発光用の光源と、発光を受け、その発光を透過光(すなわち順方向透過光)および反射光(すなわち逆方向透過光)に変換するダウンコンバージョン材料と、(a)ダウンコンバージョン材料の上に発光を収集し、移送するように、かつ、(b)反射光を受け、その反射光を光学デバイスの外側に移送するように構成された光学デバイスとを備える。
Claims (17)
- 発光用の光源と、
該発光を受け、該発光を透過光および逆方向透過光に変換するダウンコンバージョン材料であって、該光源から離れて配置されたダウンコンバージョン材料と、
該光源と該ダウンコンバージョン材料との間に配置された光学デバイスであって、該光学デバイスは、放射源の近位の第一の端と、該放射源の遠位の第二の端とを有し、該光学デバイスの近位端は、遠位端の幅よりも狭い幅を有し、該光学デバイスは、該ダウンコンバージョン材料のない少なくとも1つの透明な側壁を有し、該光学デバイスは、該逆方向透過光を受け、該逆方向透過光が該光学デバイスの外側へと該光学デバイスの該少なくとも1つの透明な側壁を通過することを可能にするように構成されている、光学デバイスと
を備える、発光装置。 - 前記光源は、発光ダイオード(LED)、レーザーダイオード(LD)または共振空洞発光ダイオード(RCLED)のうちの1つである、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、1つのスペクトル領域内で光を吸収し、別のスペクトル領域内で発光する蛍光体または他の材料のうちの1つを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、光透過材料を含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、光透過特性を有するレンズである、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスは、前記光源から前記ダウンコンバージョン材料の方向に前記発光を向けるように、さらに構成される、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光源は、前記光学デバイスの第一の端に隣接して配置される、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、前記光学デバイスの第二の端に隣接して配置され、該第二の端は前記第一の端と向かい合う側である、請求項7に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光源は、複数の半導体発光体を含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、前記光学デバイスの前記第二の端の一部の上に堆積される、請求項8に記載の発光装置。
- 前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、前記光学デバイスの前記第二の端を実質的に覆うよう堆積される、請求項10に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスの前記少なくとも1つの透明な側壁を通過した前記逆方向透過光を収集する収集デバイスを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記収集デバイスは、前記少なくとも1つの透明な側壁を通過した前記逆方向透過光を該収集デバイスから離れるように向ける反射板を含む、請求項12に記載の発光装置。
- (a)前記光源は、前記光学デバイスの第一の端に隣接して配置され、
(b)前記ダウンコンバージョン材料は、該光学デバイスの第二の端に隣接して配置され、
(c)該光学デバイスの該第一の端は、前記反射板の第一の端に隣接して配置される、請求項13に記載の発光装置。 - 前記光学デバイスの幾何学的形状は、円錐、球、双曲線、放物線、楕円、角錐または箱型形状のうちの1つを含む、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光学デバイスの少なくとも一部を取り囲む反射板と、該反射板の少なくとも一部の上部に配置された光ディフューザとをさらに備える、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記光源から発光された光を方向付けるための光管をさらに備え、該光管は、前記光学デバイスの一端であって、前記ダウンコンバージョン材料が配置されている一端に隣接して配置され、該光管の表面上に第二のダウンコンバージョン材料が配置されている、請求項1に記載の発光装置。
