Description
下記の帯電防止添加剤を3M社から入手し、塩を溶融して透明ポリカーボネートプラーク上に薄層を塗布することで、ポリカーボネートシート(GE Plastics社から入手できるBlendex PC175)上にこれらの物質のコーティングを作製した。液状の塩はポリカーボネート上に直接塗布した。50℃の水を入れたビーカー上に(被覆側を下にして)プラークを保持し、目に見える曇りがプラーク上に現われるまでの時間を記録することで、これらのコーティングを防曇性についてスクリーニングした。
表1から、防曇添加剤はフッ素又は他の疎水性成分を含むことができ、それでも防曇用に適することが明らかである。しかし、添加剤が過度に疎水性であれば、それは防曇性物質として有効に機能し得ない。添加剤が過度に疎水性であれば、それは水滴を表面に沿って広げることができないか、或いは水滴中に溶解して水の表面張力を低下させることができにないと考えられる。かかる効果を表2に示す。この場合、(疎水性が高い)過フッ素化物質は防曇性でないのに対し、非フッ素化対応物は防曇性であることが判明している。
他の界面活性物質のコーティングからの有望な防曇添加剤の初期決定:
これらの例に加えて、表3に示すように、ポリカーボネート用防曇添加剤としての可能性について(必ずしも帯電防止添加剤として設計されていない)他の界面活性物質をスクリーニングした。
表3は、何らかの界面活性機構を有しており、コーティングとしては防曇性に優れているという点でポリカーボネート用防曇添加剤の初期基準を満たす多種多様の物質を例示している。対応例はやはり、ある種の過フッ素化物質が防曇性を与えるには過度の疎水性を有するので防曇用に適しないことを示している。
次に、防曇用としての可能性を有することが判明した帯電防止添加剤又は界面活性物質をポリカーボネートと配合することで、ポリカーボネートとの相溶性、透明性、界面活性、及びコーティングではなく添加剤としての防曇性を測定した。ポリカーボネートとの配合は、添加剤を1〜5重量%の添加量で用いて行った。Ciba Specialty Chemicals社からのIrgafos 168(0.036重量%)及びCiba Specialty Chemicals社からのIrganox 1076(0.02重量%)のような典型的なポリカーボネート安定剤を配合物に添加したが、離型剤は使用しなかった。15〜35秒の射出速度を用いて、プラークを300℃で射出成形した。界面活性測定のために使用するプラークは、表面を保護するためにアルミニウム箔で包んだ。
Claims (10)
- 防曇性熱可塑性樹脂物品の製造方法であって、
芳香族熱可塑性ポリマー物品を防曇性芳香族熱可塑性ポリマー物品にするのに十分な水性環境に暴露することを含んでなり、
防曇性芳香族熱可塑性ポリマー物品が暴露前の芳香族熱可塑性ポリマー物品に比べて高い防曇性を有する、方法。 - 暴露することが、スチームへの暴露、水蒸気への暴露、水中への浸漬、水の吹付け、水の噴霧、又はこれらの1以上を含む組合せからなる、請求項1記載の方法。
- 芳香族熱可塑性ポリマー物品が、芳香族ポリカーボネート、ポリフェニレンエーテル、芳香族ポリエステル、ポリフェニレンエーテル/スチレンブレンド、芳香族ポリアミド、ポリエチレンテレフタレート、これらのブレンド、又はこれらのポリマーの1種以上を含む組合せを含む組成物からなる、請求項1記載の方法。
- 組成物がさらにイオン性又は非イオン性防曇添加剤を含む、請求項3記載の方法。
- スルホン酸塩が、スルホン酸のテトラアルキルアンモニウム塩、スルホン酸のトリアルキル(ヒドロキシアルキル)アンモニウム塩、スルホン酸のテトラアルキルホスホニウム塩、スルホン酸のトリアルキル(ヒドロキシアルキル)ホスホニウム塩、又はこれらのスルホン酸塩の1種以上を含む組合せである、請求項5記載の方法。
- 非イオン性防曇添加剤が、ポリシロキサン−ポリエーテルコポリマー、ポリ(プロピレングリコール)−ポリ(エチレングリコール)−ポリ(プロピレングリコール)又はポリ(エチレングリコール)−ポリ(プロピレングリコール)−ポリ(エチレングリコール)である、請求項4記載の方法。
- 防曇性熱可塑性樹脂物品の製造方法であって、
芳香族熱可塑性ポリマー及びイオン性又は非イオン性防曇添加剤をブレンドしてブレンドを形成し、
ブレンドを成形して熱可塑性樹脂物品を製造し、
熱可塑性樹脂物品を、暴露前の熱可塑性樹脂物品に比べて防曇性の増加を示す防曇性熱可塑性樹脂物品を与えるのに十分な水性環境に暴露する
ことを含んでなる方法。 - 請求項1記載の方法で製造される防曇性物品。
