An arrangement for the treatment of single or doubled yarn with liquid or gas (e.g. water, steam, wetting agents, anti-static agents, film forming agents such as plastics, emulsions of mineral oils or esters, waxes, chlorine, fluorine and hydrogen compounds in a spinning or doubling machine in which the spinning or doubling spindle rotates about a static hollow shaft is characterized by the treating medium being blown along the shaft into the twist zone and preferably to the point where the twist in the single or double yarn originates. In the ring spinning arrangement of Fig. 2 a static, central tube 34 which carries the rotatable portion of the spindle is connected at its lower end to a pipe 29 supplying treating medium and has at its upper end a nozzle 47 which sprays the medium on to the yarn at the point at which it is twisted. The guide eye 49 is provided with a part spherical skirt to concentrate the medium in this region. The nozzle 47 is slideable in the tube 34 so as to be vertically adjustable. Elastic rings 35 are interposed between the spindle rail 1 and the stationary portion of the spindle. In an arrangement similar to that of Fig. 2 the supply pipe 29, junction 28 and tube 34 can be vertically moved to adjust the position of the spray nozzle. In the two for one yarn doubling arrangement shown in Fig. 3 a nozzle 51 in the static central tube 50 sprays treating medium on to the yarns at the point where the twist is inserted i.e. at the foot of a central guide tube 60. Associated magnets 61, 62 are arranged on the fixed tube 50 and guide tube 60 respectively so that the guide tube 60 and therefore the package 3 which it supports via elements 64, 63, 65, is held against rotation. A freely rotatable take off flyer 71 is provided.
