Abstract

In a ring-spinning frame, for each spindle there is a thread-guide tube between the delivery means and the spindle, the tube having a length about ten times its internal diameter and so arranged relatively to the spindle that the thread immediately on leaving the tube describes a conical path, of which the generatrix is inclined to the vertical at an angle which does not exceed 45 degrees and preferably does not exceed 30 degrees. In Fig. 1, not shown, each tube is carried by a bracket on a rod 60 which can be rotated to displace all the tubes for ease of doffing. In Fig. 5, (not shown), each tube is mounted on an arm 128 secured to a rod 116 which when a locking device 138, 140, 142, is released can be rotated by a handle 148 displacing the tubes: in addition, each tube is mounted on the arm 128 by an open-fronted socket 158 into and out of which a conical sleeve on the end of the tube can be slipped for ease of threading up and doffing individual spindles. Other features (a) the thread is drawn from a supply 30 by nip rollers 50, 42 whence it maintains in equilibrium an unbalanced segment 40. When a yarn breaks, the segment pushes the upper roller along guides 48 to damp the thread; (b) there may be a guide 59 at the outlet of the tube; (c) a balloon-restricting sleeve or ring moving with the ring-rail may be provided; (d) a pin 66 to trap broken threads may be provided on top of the spindle; (e) the tube may be slotted for threading-up.
