Abstract

Apparatus for stretching yarns of synthetic filaments, especially of nylon, comprises a driven feed roll, a driven draw roll and a porous member supplied interiorly with steam and having frictional engagement with the yarn in the draw zone. The feed roll assembly suitably includes a pair of engaging rolls 6, 7, one of which is driven, and the draw roll assembly may include an inclined spacer roll 16 near the draw roll 8. The porous member may comprise a hollow porous tube 9, fitted with end caps 11, one of which is fitted with a steam inlet pipe 14 and condensate removal tube 15. Yarn is supplied from bobbin 2 around snubbing bar 3 and through guide 4 to the forwarding rolls 6, 7, thence around the porous snubbing pin 9 to which steam is supplied via 14, thus simultaneously localizing the stretch point and steam-treating the yarn, which then passes around draw roll 8 and spacer roll 16 to the ring twister 17. <FORM:0930775/IV(a)/1> <FORM:0930775/IV(a)/2>
