Abstract

1354107 Spinning slub yarns COURTAULDS Ltd 30 Sept 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 46677/70 Headings D1F and D1W Process for spinning slub yarn of wool, synthetic e.g. acrylic, or regenerated e.g. cellulose, fibres comprises drafting a basic roving or slubbing 1 between feed and delivery drafting rollers 4, 5, whilst applying false-twist by passage of the roving through a twist tube 7 (following a guide tube 6), continuously (and perhaps variably) underfeeding a supplementary roving or stubbing 8 e.g. of cotton, through auxiliary feed rollers 11 thence through the tube 7 and rollers 5 and collecting (perhaps with added, consolidating twist) the resultant combined yarn as a wound package, as on a ring spindle 13. The roving 8 is intermittently and repeatedly broken by the under feed between rollers 11 and 5, the broken forward ends then forming the slubs of different size and spacing. The rovings may differ in colour, dyeing affinity, crimp, fibre denier, staple length as well as chemical nature.
