Abstract
404,168. Twisting and doubling apparatus for imparting two twists per revolution. SOC. ITALIANA PIRELLI, 21, Via Fabio Filzi, Milan, Italy. March 17, 1933, Nos. 8187 and 8188. Convention dates, March 18, 1932 and April 28, 1932. [Class 120 (ii).] In apparatus for twisting or twisting and doubling cotton and like rovings, slivers, yarn, strand, cable, and like material wherein the yarn is drawn in the form of a loop from a bobbin on a rotatable frame, the bobbin or bobbins are stationarily mounted in the frame and with the frame are overhung from one end, and the frame is rigid and extends beyond the ends of the bobbins at its unsupported end, the yarn or the like passing to the frame so that it is twisted before it is looped. The bobbin or bobbins preferably are of cop form, but may in the form of a cheese, Fig. 3 (not shown), and are mounted on a stationary carrier 2 carried by a driven spindle 8 provided with a flange 13 to which the twisting-frame 14 is secured, the yarn or yarns passing through a tension device 16 of any convenient form, around a guide 15, along the frame and through an axial hole in the spindle 8 to a delivery guide roller 24. As shown, the tension device comprises a pin 17 slidably mounted in a sleeve 18 and carrying guiding-means engaged by the yarn against the pull of a spring 19. The apparatus may be arranged in groups of three driven by gearing 32, 35, 36, as shown in Fig. 2, the twisted and doubled yarns from each group being doubled, and twisted together by ring twisting-apparatus 40, and may be used in machines for dyeing, waterproofing or otherwise treating the twisted yarns.
