[Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] An elastic yarn comprising a twisted rubber core and a textile cover spun thereon is made by rotating a package of rubber thread, pulling the thread endwise from the package to twist it in one direction and tension it a predetermined amount simultaneously advancing the twisted rubber thread and a textile roving to a spinning means which spins the roving about the core in the opposite direction so as to form a cover to the core and reduce the twist in the core ; preferably half the twist in the core is removed. As shown the core thread 10 is drawn downwards from the rotating supply bobbin 11 at a definite speed by feed rollers 16, 18 which tension the core a predetermined amount, the roller 16 being driven by a gear 17 and the roller 18 being freely rotatable in a pivoted arm 19. The twisted core from the rollers 16, 18 then passes to rollers 23 where it meets a roving 38 which is spun on the twisted core by the ring spinning device 40. The roving is formed from two ends 27 and is drafted by rollers 23, 24, 25 before becoming combined with the twisted core. In a modification the supply bobbin is mounted in a horizontal position and the twisted core passes over an idle roller before passing to the rollers 16, 18 and in another form the core is drawn upwards from the rotating supply bobbin.
