Spindle apparatus. -In spinning and twisting machines wherein d r a g is applied to the bobbin to cause the winding- on a deflecting means comprising an adjustable arm l is arranged to rotate with the flyer so as to provide a frictional retardation for the yarn whereby the tension due to the drag of the bobbin is partly taken up, the twist being imparted to the yarn between such deflecting means and the rollers. As shown, the arm is carried on a cap e on the head of the flyer. The arm may be provided with a vertical cylinder around which the yarn is wrapped. An eccentric guide s is provided in a bridge-plate q above the arm.
