639,717. Twisting and curling yarns. ENGLAND & CO. (SHELLEY); Ltd Feb. 24, 1947, No. 5271. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] In apparatus for producing hard twisted yarns, a bobbin a containing ends of yarn A to be twisted together is mounted loosely on a spindle b extending transversely across a holder or container c rotating about a vertical axis, the ends of yarn A being led over a guide roller g and between nip rollers h, h<SP>1</SP>, i, i<SP>1</SP>, from which the now twisted-together ends pass under a tension bar j and a hook or equivalent member k whence they pass down a central hollow neck m<SP>1</SP> of a flyer m carried by a driven vertical spindle w out through a radial opening m<SP>2</SP>, through a guide eye m<SP>3</SP> and a twizzle or eye m<SP>4</SP> to be wound on a bobbin p mounted loosely on the flyer spindle w and resting upon a rising and falling lifter rail r. The ends of yarn passing from bobbin a may be divided about a pin s. After being twisted together as above the yarns can be " set " by boiling or other treatment and subsequently separated to present a permanently curled or crimped appearance.
