Abstract

815,202. Crimping yarns. INVENTA AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG. July 1, 1957 [Aug. 4, 1956], No. 20705/57. Class 120(3) In the production of crimped yarn, a bundle of untwisted parallel or pretwisted smooth synthetic linear polyamide filaments is simultaneously stretched by at least 150 per cent and given a false twist of 2000-3500 turns per metre and is heat-set in such twisted condition. Crimp yarn having extensibility of about 100 per cent may be produced from unwashed and unstretched filaments on spinning spools; yarn with higher extensibility may be produced from filaments pretreated by twisting e.g. to 400 turns per metre, washing at about 50‹C. and drying, optionally under tension, to set such twist. The crimp set in the yarn may be increased if the yarn is twisted before it is finally fixed e.g. immediately after crimping. As shown, freshly spun filaments 1, which may have a slight twist, are withdrawn from a spool 2 through a tension regulator 3, feed rollers 4, around a braking or snubbing pin 5 which also acts as a twist stop, through a tubular heater 6 and a false-twister 7, over a guide 10 acting as a twist stop, then between rollers 8 rotating at a higher peripheral speed than the rollers 4 to effect the stretch and the resulting yarn is wound on a reel 9, then washed, on perforated spools, or in a loose skein, to fix the crimp.
