Abstract

642,896. Spinning and twisting machines. ICKRINGILL & CO., Ltd., I., and ICKRINGILL, A. D. Nov. 28, 1946, No. 35339. [Class 120(ii)] Textile yarns are spun or twisted by leading yarn in an axial direction to upper guide means of a rotary cap flyer, then through the guide means and over the outer periphery of the flyer to lower guide means which may be selected to allow adjustment of the length of yarn in frictional contact with the flyer, before passing to a lagging bobbin from the lower guide means. Yarn 13 is passed through the hollow spindle of a mounting 9 to upper guide eyes in a cap 1, or through a hole in the wall of the hollow spindle and across a groove in the shoulder of the cap, thence over the periphery of the cap to one of several guide eyes arranged round the lower rim of the cap and with slits leading to the rim for threading. From the lower guide eye, the yarn passes to a bobbin 16 on a spindle 17, which may be hinged, or mounted on a hinged rail, so that it may be tilted for doffing. If an automatic doffing arrangement be used which involves turning the spindle 17 into a pendant position, the bobbin 16 is held by a spring clip 24. To facilitate piecening the cap may be held stationary by the insertion of a key through an opening 22 in a rail 10 to engage a pin 23 projecting from the cap and the bobbin may be supported on an extended spindle by a spring, or other retaining element, which permits quick release to allow the bobbin to fall clear of the cap for piecening. A conical yarn guide 25 with grooves 26 may be provided within the top of the cap to render threading easier.
