[Class 20(ii)] Centrifugal spinning and twisting machines of the kind in which yarn spun or twisted into an inverted centrifugal container is unwound on to a bobbin supported by a stationary spindle, have a resilient means provided on each spindle to contact the lower ends of an opposed traversing yarn guide when the bobbins are raised into winding position so as to trap the yarn, raise the yarn guide above the normal traverse, and initiate unwinding, a supplementary length of yarn being first wound on to the spindle above the bobbin. In one modification, Figs. 1 and 3, the spindle 7 has a truncated conical upper extremity 13 to receive a supplementary length of yarn wound above the main yarn mass M in the yarn holder 4, the extremity 13 having a depression to receive an interceptor disc 14 adapted to bear against the yarn T extending from the guide 6 when the spindle 7 and bobbin 12 are raised to the correct unwinding position. In an alternative modification, Fig. 4, the spindle 7 has a flexible cone 16 attached to it, the apex of the cone entering the bore of the guide 6 in the unwinding position to trap the yarn and thus initiate unwinding.
