Abstract

1,095,489. Stretching synthetic filaments. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Aug. 25, 1965 [Aug. 25, 1964; Sept. 11, 1964], No. 36543/65. Heading B5B. A thermoplastic synthetic fibre 1 is (a) stretched by the mirror-finished portion of an unheated driven roll 11; (b) passed on to an unheated follower roll 3; (c) passed on to the matt portion of roll 11 by way of matt guiderod 13; (d) passed on to cylindrical non- rotating matt meniber 10 heated to 100- 190‹ C.; (e) passed again on to rolls 11 and 3; and (e) wound at not more than 0À05 g/denier. At each stage (a)-(d) there may be several wraps, the rolls and member 10 being arranged out of parallel. The member 10 may be heated by a heating medium, e.g. steam or " Dowtherm " (Registered Trade Mark) or by electricity. The rolls and members may have chromium-plated surfaces, the roughening being achieved by honing with emery powder. The fibre 1 adheres to the mirror-like surface of roll 1 but slips on the matt surfaces, and hence is heat-treated in a fully relaxed state. The fibre may be of polycaprolactam.
