Abstract

In the production of textured yarns, a running tow of polyamide continuous filaments drawn under tension from a spool (optionally with simultaneous twisting) is stretched e.g. 4 : 1, between rolls 3 and the inlet rollers 4 of a stuffer box whereby it is fed directly into the crimping chamber 5 wherein the filaments (which are still in the condition of successively partial softening owing to the stretching) are crimped and also washed and set by means of hot water or a water-steam mixture. The crimped tow is withdrawn by rollers 8 (assisted by a loop eliminating device 7) and formed into a spinning cake preparatory to winding.
