Abstract

983,416. Treating artificial yarns. MONSANTO CO. May 13, 1963 [May 23, 1962], No. 18885/63. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] A method of lubricating yarn comprises moving a group of filaments longitudinally from a source 15, separating the filaments into a plurality of bundles 16, applying a lubricating agent to each bundle, reuniting the bundles to form a yarn, stretching the yarn and collecting the stretched yarn. A pump 8 supplies a lubricant containing waxes, resins, dyes &c., in the form of an emulsion, solution or dispersion to the reservoir 3 of a lubricating guide 1. The lubricant flows through a filter 14 and orifices 13 to arcuate grooves 12-one for each bundle of filaments-and down the grooves into contact with the bundles. The lubricated bundles are heated in a steam or hot air chamber 17 and then pass to a converging guide 18, a roll 19, draw pin 22, a second roll 23 driven at a faster peripheral speed than roll 19 to stretch the yarn and thence via transverse guide 20 to bobbin 21.
