Abstract

<PICT:0460079/IV/1> <PICT:0460079/IV/2> Artificial yarns are subjected to washing, desulphurizing, bleaching, dyeing, and other finishing treatments in the production of continuous filament or short fibre yarns, by counter-current treatment in open channels, and during the treatment the yarns are kept under tension and subjected to squeezing within the liquid. Suitable apparatus for carrying out the process consists of a series of inclined independent channels 1 in which are situated diaphragms or pairs of diaphragms 2, Fig. 4, slotted in such a way that the fibre bundle 4 brushes with slight friction the lower horizontal side of the slot 3<1> of the lower diaphragm and the upper horizontal side of the slot 3<11> of the higher diaphragm, or vice versa. In a modification, Fig. 6, spaced bars 8 are provided alternately above and below the path of travel of the yarn. The lengths of the slots and/or the distances between the diaphragms may increase from the lower to the upper part of the channel. On leaving the channels, the fibre bundle is passed on to a set of squeezing rollers, one of which may be inclined with respect to the others. Specification 311,399, [Class 2 (ii)], is referred to.
