Abstract
<PICT:0451944/IV/1> For the washing, after-treating, dyeing, &c. of a thick endless bundle of artificial filaments there is employed a bath or baths through which the bundle is continuously forwarded whilst there is maintained such an accumulation lying on the floor of the bath or on a conveyer band covering such floor as to ensure the opening - up and efficient treatment of the bundle. Before entering a bath, the bundle is allowed to fall a considerable distance under its own weight. In a convenient arrangement, in front of each bath there is arranged a conveyer comprising three rollers f<1>, f<2>, f<3> in staggered relationship and extending the full width of the bath; a reciprocating guide e in front of the first roller f<2> causes the bundle to traverse the whole width of the bath, and the last roller f<3> is of oval cross-section or mounted concentrically in order to effect a spreading-out of the bundle as it falls into the bath and is received either on the floor or on a conveyer m; rods h<1> in the bath serve to gather floating filaments, and rods h remove liquid carried forward by the bundle.
