Abstract

<PICT:0457328/IV/1> <PICT:0457328/IV/2> <PICT:0457328/IV/3> <PICT:0457328/IV/4> In the continuous production of staple fibre bundles of filaments from the nozzles of spinning - machines are conveyed along a wash trough through which water flows to after-treatment plant in which the combined bundles are treated in the form of a fibre rope. After passing through the after-treatment plant the rope is conveyed to a cutting-machine and to the customary further treatment machines. The filaments fall from godets a, Fig. 1b, into a trough b, which is divided into compartments to accommodate the bundles from a single nozzle or from a number of nozzles, for example six or ten, and the rope so formed is conveyed by squeezing-rollers e to the after-treatment plant. After the machine has started, the direction of flow of the wash water may be reversed, this being effected so that the issuing rope is sprayed with water which flows counter to the movement of the rope. The trough may be extended beyond the end of the spinning-machines. The compartments of the trough may be arranged side by side or one above another. The after-treatment baths are arranged side by side, and the rope is fed by means of a non-circular, for example oval, reel g, Fig. 3, through the baths and squeezing-rollers l, which are rotated at a speed less than that of the rollers e to allow for shrinkage. In place of the rollers l, pairs of conical rollers l<1>, Fig. 4, may be used and rotated by the rope, the position of which is adjusted by a guide bar m. British Specifications 275,540, 286,603, and 311,399, [all in Class 2 (ii)], and German Specifications 341,833 and 377,346 are referred to.
