Abstract

A process for the continuous treatment of tows comprises dropping the tow together with a treating liquid into a bath of said liquid, the impact of the tow on the surface of the liquid causing the tow to separate into its individual filaments, which filaments are passed through the bath and drawn out at a velocity higher than the velocity of liquid travel in the bath in the form of a tow, the filaments coming together again by the frictional resistance of the liquid. Apparatus for carrying out said process comprises a U-shaped tubular bath, above the inlet arm of which are arranged a pair of feed rolls and an inlet port provided with nozzles supplying the treating liquid to the tow; above the outlet arm of the bath a squeezing guide and a pair of squeezing delivery rolls are provided.
