Abstract
1,027,936. Treating hanks. M. C. FORT. Oct. 19, 1962 [Oct. 19, 1961; Sept. 5, 1962], No. 39718/62. Heading D1L. In the treatment of hanks of yarn 48, hanks are attached at each end to holder 14 in a machine which stretches and widens and possibly brushes the hanks and pairs of holders are joined so that the hanks form a flat chain. The chain is wound on to a beam 7 (Fig. 1 not shown) from which it is drawn through a treatment circuit which in Fig. 1 comprises an array of steam nozzles 3, guides 11, roller guide 2, rollers 1 which guide pins 38 on the holders 14 into clamps 46 (Fig. 9 not shown) on an endless chain device, bath inlets 8, sprays 4, and a reversing section which contains heating or refrigerating tubes 9, a reversing roller 2, a bath outlet 5 and tubes 10 to indicate liquid level. The chain then passes through similar stages in reverse order to be wound up on a further beam 7; alternatively the chain may pass to a further machine without intermediate beaming. The rollers 1 may feed the hanks on to the endless conveyor device in relaxed condition. The material holders 14 may be flat (Figs. 5, 5a, 5b not shown) or cylindrical (Figs. 7, 7a not shown) in which case they have toothed wheels 17 (Fig. 8 not shown) engaging toothed guides 20 so that the holders and thus the hanks are rotated; this is desirable in the mercerizing of the yarns. In other forms the rollers 17 may pass between smooth or toothed surfaces either stationary or moving. Rotatable, perforated spray or suction tubes are shown in Figs. 10, 11, 12.
