Abstract
<PICT:0857225/IV (c)/1> An apparatus for the continuous wet treatment, e.g. bleaching or dyeing, of knitted fabrics comprises a line of vats U above each of which is a pair of driven horizontal feed rolls 71, 81, arranged side by side to feed a fabric web W down vertically on to liquor in the vat, the rolls 71, 81 being mounted in a carriage, not shown, adapted to reciprocate over the vat for folding the web in zig-zag and untensioned condition on to the liquor. Each vat is U-shaped in section, liquor being circulated by a pump from the exit side 17 of the vat by a pipe 16 to a heated chamber 6 and on to the opposite side 13 of the vat through a pipe 15 to provide a flow of liquor around the bottom of the vat, to assist the folds 11 of the web W to traverse the vat as indicated. A pair of spray pipes 12 may be associated with each carriage and they may be fed with liquor from the vat by a pump. Driven squeeze rollers 20, 21, one hard and one relatively soft, remove the web from the vat. The rolls 71, 81, of each vat but the first are slightly spaced apart. A movable partition may be provided in the vat to vary the width.
