Abstract

768,128. Treatment of artificial threads. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. Nov. 24, 1953 [April 27, 1953], No. 32623/53. Addition to 686,339. Class 2 (2). [Also in Group IV (c)] The apparatus of the parent Specification. (wherein artificial thread is treated with a number of liquids in turn by passing it through a series of tubes to which the liquids are supplied and separating it from liquid after leaving each tube, and means are provided for guiding the thread from the outlet of one tube to the inlet of the next tube), is modified by the provision of guiding means comprising a unitary structure which can be rotated or pivoted as a whole in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis into and out of a position in which it defines a path between the outlet of one tube and the inlet of the next tube and a position in which it is out of registry with the outlet. As shown in Fig. 1, a treating tube 11 and the next tube 13 of a tube system are supported in a jet box structure 26 which may support other tubes of the system (not shown.). The box 26 is provided with a drain boss 15 registered below the exit end 10 of the tube 11 and with another drain boss 16 registered below the mouth 12 of the tube 13. Bridging the space between the tube outlet end 10 and inlet mouth 12 there is a deflector 23 which is a unitary structure and is provided with a channel or groove 24 extending between the end 10 and mouth 12, which groove servos to guide liquid and thread issuing from the tube 11 to a point adjacent to the mouth 12. The deflector 23 is rotatably mounted on the fixed vertical pivot pin 25 forming part of the jet box 26. During spinning-in the deflector 23 is in the position shown in full lines, i.e. in the same vertical plane as the tubes 11 and 13. When spinning-in is completed, the deflector is turned through an angle of 90 degrees to allow the spinning-in liquid issuing from the end 10 of the tube 11 to flow out through the drain boss 15 for recovery instead of being deflected into the mouth 12 of the tube 13. The tube 13 is supplied with treatment liquid from a tube 20 provided with a nozzle 21. The tubes 11 and 13 may be of sufficiently large internal diameter to be suitable for the treatment of a tow. The jet of treatment liquid issuing from nozzle 21 creates a negative pressure zone at the mouth 12 of the tube 13 whereby thread is sucked in.
