Abstract

The artificial filaments after passing over rollers 2 are carried on a band conveyer 3 in the form of two bundles F, F<1> to the after-treatment machine 4, the bundles being separately treated on two sides of the machine so that any necessary action by the attendants is possible from both sides. The after-treatment liquids are circulated between upper <PICT:0447450/IV/1> tanks 5 and troughs 7, the bundles of threads F, F<1> running over and along pairs of rollers 6, 6<1>. The bundles F, F<1> are united to form a single bundle F<11> in front of the cutting apparatus which comprises two independently operating cutting devices 8, 8<1>, e.g. rotating discs with three rectilinear cutting blades co-operating with a counter-blade. The stapled fibres are then loosened and opened by spraying in a trough 9 comprising a sloping part 9<1> and a horizontal part 9<11> having roughened bottom surfaces to retain the fibres, and then conveyed through a preliminary opener 11, a drying chamber 13 and a second opener 15.
