Abstract

Penicillins of the general formula <FORM:0893518/IV (b)/1> and non-toxic salts thereof, wherein R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different and each is a cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl or C1 to C10 alkyl group, are prepared by reacting 6-aminopenicillanic acid or a neutral salt thereof with an acid chloride of the general formula <FORM:0893518/IV (b)/2> or with its functional equivalent as an acylating agent for a primary amino group, such as the corresponding carboxylic acid bromides, acid anhydrides and mixed anhydrides with other carboxylic acids. Typical examples of penicillins of the above formula are 6-(b ,b -diethylbutyramido)-, 6-(b ,b -diethyl-valeramido)-, 6-(b ,b -dimethylheptanamido)-, 6 - (b - propyl - b - ethyl - butyramido)-, 6 - (b , b - dimethylhexanamido)-, 6 - (b , b - dimethylvaleramido) -, 6 - (b - methyl - b - ethylbutyramido) - and 6 - (b , b - dipropyl - hexanamido)-penicillanic acid.
