Abstract

Relates to acids of the general formula <FORM:0889168/IV (b)/1> and non-toxic salts thereof, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 20, and R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different and each is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy, chloro, bromo, iodo, fluoro, trifluoromethyl, nitro, amino, C1-C6 alkyl, alkylamino, alkoxy or alkanoylamino, di (C1-C6 alkyl) amino, sulphamyl, allyl, allyloxy, benzyl, cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl group. Typical acids of the above formula are 6-(o -benzoylaminocaproamido), 6 - (3,4,5 - trimethoxyhippuramido), 6 - (hippuramido), 6 - (a - benzoylaminopropionamido) and 6 - (a - benzoylamino - b - ethyl - b -methylpropionamido) penicillanic acid. The p compounds may be prepared by reacting 6-amino-penicillanic acid or a neutral salt thereof with an acid chloride of the general formula <FORM:0889168/IV (b)/2> or with its functional equivalent as an acylating agent for a primary amino group such as the corresponding carboxylic acid bromides, acid anhydrides and mixed anhydrides with other carboxylic acids.
