Abstract

Relates to acids of the general formula <FORM:0891586/IV (b)/1> and non-toxic salts thereof, wherein R1 is a cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, trifluoroethyl or tetrafluoropropyl group or an aliphatic group having from one to twenty carbon atoms inclusive and R2 and R3 are the same or different and each is a C1-C6\t alkyl group. Typical examples of acids of the above formula are 6-(a -methoxyisobutyramido)-, 6-(a -butoxyisobutyramido)-, 6-(a -isopropoxyisobutyramido)-, 6-(a -allyloxyisobutyramido)-, 6-(a -isobutoxyisobutyramido)-, 6-(a -ethoxyisobutyramido)-, 6-[a -(2,2,2-trifluorethoxy)isobutyramido]-, 6-(a -cyclohexyloxyisobutyramido)-, 6-[a -(2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropoxy)isobutyramido]-, and 6-(a -allyloxy-a -ethylbutyramido)-penicillanic acid. The acids may be prepared by reacting 6-aminopenicillanic acid or a neutral salt thereof with an acid chloride of the general formula <FORM:0891586/IV (b)/2> or with its functional equivalent as an acylating agent for a primary amino group, such as the corresponding carboxylic acid bromides, acid anhydrides and mixed anhydrides with other carboxylic acids.
