Abstract

Relates to acids of the general formula <FORM:0876662/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and each is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing from one to ten carbon atoms or a hydroxy, chloro, bromo, phenyl or thienyl group, such as 6-(2-quinolinecarboxamido), 6-(7- chloro -4- hydroxy -3- quinolinecarboxamido), 6-(2-methyl-4-quinolinecarboxamido), 6-(2-hydroxy-4-quinolinecarboxamido) and 6-(4-hydroxy-2-quinolinecarboxamido) penicillanic acid and to non-toxic salts thereof. The Specification contains examples of many other such acids. The acids may be prepared by reacting 6-amino-pencillanic acid or a neutral salt thereof with an acid chloride of the general formula <FORM:0876662/IV (b)/2> or with its functional equivalent as an acylating agent for a primary amino group such as the corresponding bromides, acid anhydrides and mixed anhydrides with other carboxylic acids.
