Abstract

Relates to penicillins of the general formula <FORM:0889069/IV (b)/1> where R is an alkyl group, such as octyl, nonyl and pentadecyl penicillin, and non-toxic salts thereof. The penicillins may be prepared by reacting 6-aminopenicillanic acid, or a neutral salt thereof, with an acid chloride of the general formula R.(CH2)7.CO.Cl or with a functional equivalent thereof as an acylating agent for a primary amino group, such as the corresponding carboxylic acid bromides, acid anhydrides and mixed anhydrides with other carboxylic acids.
