Abstract
The invention comprises quinolyl-8-oxyacetic acid derivatives of the general formula <FORM:1003478/C2/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1-5 carbon atoms, X and Y independently represent alkyl groups of 1-3 carbon atoms, aralkyl, carboxylic acyl, nitro, amino or acylamino groups or halogen atoms, Z represents hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1-3 carbon atoms, an aralkyl or carboxylic acyl group or halogen and m and n are independently 0 or 1 and when Z is hydrogen or halogen at least one of m and n is 1 and X is not bromine, and the non-toxic acid addition salts of the compounds where R is an alkyl group. The compounds are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1003478/C2/2> wherein M is hydrogen, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, with a compound <FORM:1003478/C2/3> wherein R is an alkyl group having 1-5 carbon atoms and Q represents a reactive substituent which can be split off as an anion, and if desired saponifying the resulting esters or converting them to their acid addition salts. Suitable values for Q are halogen and aromatic sulphonyloxy radicals. Values for X and Y illustrated in the examples are hydrogen methyl, ethyl, nitro, amino, acetamido, chloroand bromo and for Z hydrogen methyl, aceto, chloro, bromo, butyro, benzyl and benzoyl. The compounds of the invention are growth stimulators and are used in animal feeds (see Specification 1,003,477, Division A2).
