746,760. Cranes. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.-GES. Feb. 5, 1953 [Feb. 20, 1952], No. 3320/53. Class 78 (4). A pillar crane having a horizontal path for the load has a rope balancing the load rope extending from the top of the jib to the top of the crane, and secured to the mounting of a displaceable pulley or pulleys of a pulley tackle for the hoisting rope mounted between the top of the crane and the hoisting winch or its drum, counterweights balancing the weight of the jib being connected with the pulley or pulleys which is or are arranged vertically. As shown in Fig. 1, the hoisting rope 6 passes over a pulley 7 on the jib, over a pulley 8 on the crane frame 5, round a fixed pulley 12 and a movable pulley 13, to a winch 10 mounted within a cabin 3 on a platform 9 of a portal gantry. A tie-rope or pair of ropes 16 passes from the head of the jib over a pulley or pulleys 17 at the top of the crane frame to a shaft on which the pulley 13 is mounted. The shaft or pulley 13 also carries counterweights for balancing the weight of the jib. On luffing the jib the rope or ropes 16 is or are slackened so that the hoisting rope depresses the pulley 13 to an extent to provide the load with a horizontal path of travel.
