The reeving of the hoisting rope 27 of a mobile crane is such that, with the jib horizontal, the hook 14 remains at a constant height during extension and retraction of the telescopic jib section 12. Section 12 of the jib is movable inwardly and outwardly through the main jib: section 10 on rollers 15, 15a, 16, 16a, 16b, by means of a rack 18 and a motor-driven pinion 19. The two end portions of the hoisting rope 27 lead off a winch drum 28, pass round pulleys 30 on the jib section 10, pulleys 31, 32 on the section 12, round snatch block pulleys 33 and pulleys 34 to a fixed compensating pulley 35 on the section 10. The jib may be luffed'about an axis 11 by means of a rope 22, anchored at 23. and passing round pulleys 21, 24 to a winch; drum 25, or by means of screws secured to the main section 10 and passing through nuts, rotatably mounted on the. superstructure 3.
