Abstract

1311767 Counterbalancing tower cranes RICHIER SA 29 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 26104/70 Heading B8B A tower crane comprises a jib 4 along which is reciprocable a load carriage 6 with a load hook 7 on a load cable 15. The cable 15 passes around pulleys 26, 28 on a device 16 comprising a ram 33 and accumulators 34 so that the load is gradually taken up by the jib 4 as the load cable 15 is wound in. The jib 4 is supported by a cable 14 having two parts connected by an extensometer 13. As the load is gradually accepted by the jib 4 the response from the extensometer 13 is used to actuate a winch 10 to position a counterweight 9 along counter-jib 5 to balance the moment exerted by the load on the jib 4.
