Abstract

1,113,740. Level-luffing jib-cranes. A. A. S. HAINES. 14 Feb., 1967 [25 Aug., 1966; 13 Sept., 1966], No. 6886/67. Heading B8B. A non-slewing level-luffing jib-crane has an arm 29 pivoted to the top of the jib 12 at 24 which is pivoted as the jib luffs by a triangular member 4, 9, 10 pivoted to the arm 29 at 27. As the jib swings about its pivot 8 from the position shown in Fig. 1, the triangular member pivots first about a roller 7 until the jib is vertical and then about a roller 6 as the jib swings to the left. A pinion 19 which engages a rack 18 luffs the jib. A counterweight 16 swings with the jib. The hoist rope passes up the jib to the pivot 24 and along the arm to pass out between pulleys 30, 31. Fig. 3 illustrates an embodiment in which a lever 34 is pivoted to the outer end of the arm 29, the hoist rope being reeved around pulleys 30, 31a, 33 and a pulley 36 on a spreader bar 38 before being anchored at 35. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which the arm 29 comprises two portions 29a, 29b. Down each one passes a separate hoisting cable 21a, 21b to a spreader bar 43 after being reeved round pulleys 41a, 42a, 41b, 42b respectively.
