Abstract

1,085,512. Dockside cranes. WELLMAN ENGINEERING CORPORATION Ltd. Aug. 31, 1964, No. 35537/64. Heading B8B. An ore unloader, Fig. 1, runs on rails 3, has a tower 12 which slews by means of bogies 8 on a carriage 7 and has winches 25, 23 for respectively hoisting and moving the trolley disposed on top of the tower. One of the ropes for raising a grab 27 passes over pulleys 26, down round pulleys P, up over pulleys concentric with pulleys 26 and is anchored at an equalizing pulley system 24a. The second rope passes in a similar manner over pulleys 26b and P<SP>1</SP> to the pulley system 24a. This arrangement limits swinging of the grab. The second rope also passes over pulleys 28 and moves counterbalance weights up and down at the rear of the tower. An operator's cabin 34 moves along rails 33. Fig. 3 shows rows 36, 39 passing over pulleys 26, 26a on the trolley 22 to winches 23, 25. Hoisting is effected by running the winches in the same direction and traversing by running the winches in opposite directions. Fig. 4 shows a similar arrangement with greater antiswing properties. The pulleys 26, 26a of Fig. 3 may be spaced further apart and geared together so that they rotate in opposite directions in order that swinging of the load may be eliminated. Fig. 6 shows ropes 36, 39 passing round pulleys 26, 26a in the opposite direction to give greater " wrap around." The pulleys may be geared together as before. The ropes 36, 39 may comprise several passes. The end 11 of the boom 10 may be hinged in known manner.
