Abstract

1,021,653. Mobile jib-cranes for ships. ATLAS-WERKE A.G. Nov. 22, 1962 [Dec. 16, 1961], No. 44235/62. Heading B8B. A jib crane 4, Fig. 1, is pivoted about a horizontal pivot 3 to a carriage 2 which runs on longitudinal rails 6 on the deck of a ship. The jib does not luff in a vertical plane but is off-set so that the head 8, Fig. 2, moves over a hatch 9 from one side of the ship to the other. To minimize swinging of the load, the hoisting rope 14 is supported from the jib head 8 at points 10, 11. To provide level luffing the hoisting rope passes round rockable pulleys 17 on top of a post 18 mounted on the carriage 2 and rockable pulleys 16 on the boom. Rams 13 luff the boom. To minimize torsional stress in the jib the point of intersection of the line of the cable 14 with the pulley block 17 is arranged perpendicularly above the point of intersection of the centre line of the jib and the axis of rotation of the jib. Two cranes may be operated independently or commonly driven and controlled. The two carriages 2 may be coupled together and the load may be supported by one or both jibs. Either one or both cars may have driving mechanism and brakes are provided. The transverse head 8 of the jib may be pivoted so as to remain horizontal at all times.
