Abstract

965,320. Ships' derricks. T. FLADMARK. July 20, 1962 [July 20, 1961; March 2, 1962], No. 28041/62. Heading B8B. A ship's derrick 16, Fig. 1, is mounted for slewing about a pin 20 on a base 10 which is itself pivoted about a pivot 7. Two bases 10 each carrying a derrick may be mounted for independent rotation about the pivot 7. The bases are supported by rollers 11 running on a circular rail 8 and are rotated by a ring gear 9 and pinion 13. The derricks 16 are slewed by ring gears and pinions. Two rams 25 raise and lower the lifting cable. The two derricks may co-operete to raise a single heavy load. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, derricks 32 are mounted for luffing about axes 33 on bases 10a which pivot about an axis 7a as previously described. Rams 34 luff the derricks and lifting cables 18a are raised by winches 31. Fig. 4 shows two pairs of derricks mounted on a carrier 46 which runs on rails 47 mounted longitudinally along the deck of a ship. In a third embodiment, Fig. 5, a derrick 16b is pivoted for slewing about an axis 20b to a base 10b which pivots about an axis 7b. A similar derrick may be provided at the opposite end of the base 10b instead of the cable and nook 43, 44. In all the embodiments the derricks may be constructed to luff and/or slew.
