Abstract

990,204. Ship's derricks. J. V. BUCKLAND. Sept. 17, 1963 [Sept. 17, 1962], No. 35261/62. Heading B8B. The boom 16, Fig. 3, of a ship's derrick is mounted on an eye 15 carried by a slewing turn-table 14 and the topping lift tackle is mounted on a further turn-table 13. Both turn-tables encircle the mast and may be driven by pinions 22, 23 on a shaft 24 driven from one of the ship's winches. The shaft may be housed inside the mast, Fig. 4, or separate electric motors 30, 31 may rotate the turntables. The boom may be secured to the mast by a band 33 pivoted at 33a and detachably secured at 33b.
