Abstract

A container 41, Fig. 1, suspended from a ship's derrick 1, is turned about a vertical axis by a lifting frame comprising a lower member 23 which is rotated with respect to an upper member 16. Rotation of the upper member is minimized by the four-point suspension provided on the jib, which is as described in Specification 1,049,863. A single joist rope 15 has its free ends wound on drums 13 which may be driven together or singly. The lower member 23, Fig. 2, is driven by a worm 28 and wheel 29, and is supported by rollers 33 which run on rails 35 suspended from the upper member 16 by posts 37. The lifting frame may also be used with an overhead crane.
