Abstract

1,031,318. Jib cranes. T. S. DECUIR. Oct. 26, 1964 [Feb. 12, 1964], No. 43580/64. Heading B8B. In a mobile crane comprising a mast 13 and a jib both pivotally mounted on a cab 11 for angular movement in a vertical plane by topping lifts 18, 33 respectively, as described in Specification 1,018,695, the jib is provided with a pivotal joint 60 which may be coupled to the upper end of the mast, thereby allowing the upper portion of the jib to be pivoted relatively to and independently of the lower portion, Fig. 3 (not shown). The upper end of the mast is provided with a gantry arrangement 34, 80, 77 in which the undersides of the outer ends of arms 77 are provided with notches adapted to engage the ends of the pivot pin 63 of the jib joint 60. When the jib is not engaged by the gantry arrangement, the upper and lower portions are locked in alignment at the joint 60, Fig. 5 (not shown). The lower pulley block of the topping lift 18 is supported on collapsible gantry arms and a mast stop is provided as described in Specification 1,018,695. A counterbalance weight 86 may be suspended from the top of the mast by a cable 87. The jib may be pivoted to the lower end of the mast.
