Abstract

930,021. Level-luffing cranes. TORNBORG & LUNDBERG A.B. Feb. 28, 1961 [March 1, 1960], No. 7351/61. Class 78 (4). When the jib of a tower crane 1 is luffed by a line 15 the two halves 8, 10 fold together about a pivot 9 and eventually reach the position shown in broken lines. The folding is controlled by a line 13 which wraps round a segment 12, the radius of which decreases towards its free end, so that the load hook follows a horizontal path. The jib is pivoted on a slewable mounting 6 which also carries a counterbalance arm 18 with weights 17 supported by a stay 19. In a second embodiment the stay is coupled to the jib member 8 by a linkage which raises the counterbalance arm as the jib is raised, thus, the weights 17 help to restore the jib to a horizontal position. The tower of the crane 1 may be mounted on successively higher floors 3, 4, 5 of a building in known manner.
