Abstract

997,993. Telescopic jib cranes. W. GALLATI. Dec. 18, 1961 [Dec. 19, 1960], No.45255/61. Heading B8B. As a load 38 is raised by a winch 17 an abutment 37 engages a rib 35 to luff a jib 26, 27 and push the portion 27 into portion 26 against the extending action of a rope 30 which passes from a point 28 on the jib section 27, round a pulley 31, mounted on jib section 26, to a fixed point 32. The jib is pivoted to a rod 12 which rotates in bearings 10 attached to the wall 1 of a building so that the load can be slewed into the building. As the jib is luffed, a pulley 19, which bears on the cable 18, is raised and pivots a lever 20 to move a switch 21 to its central "off" position by pulling on a rope 22b. To lower the load the switch 21 is turned to the left and when the cable 18 becomes slack, due to the load resting on the ground, the lever 20 pivots clockwise, either under its own weight or by spring action, thereby pulling the switch 21 back to the "off" position by rope 22a. When raising a heavy load the abutment 37, which allows the load to revolve without twisting the rope, bears down on a rib 36 to ensure retraction of the jib.
