Abstract
888,550. Preventing load of crane from swinging. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. May 6, 1960 [May 8, 1959], No. 16077/60. Class 78 (4). A level luffing crane having a boom 7, Fig. 2, and winch drums 1, 3 for hoisting and luffing cables respectively all mounted on a turn-table 5 has two load-carrying cables 13, 14, Fig. 1, which are arranged in a three-point suspension 16, 21, 22 at the end of the boom. These cables pass round a sheave 19, 20 and each has at least one end attached to a drum 12 which is mounted on the boom and rotated by the hoist cable 2. As shown, both ends of cables 13, 14 are attached to the drum 12 so that the hoisting cable winds in both ends of cables 13, 14 by rotating the drum 12. The sheaves 20, 21 are widely spaced laterally to form, with the sheave 15, 16, the three-point suspension which prevents swinging of the load. In a second embodiment in which only one end of the load-carrying cables is fixed to the drum 12 those sections of the drum 12 on to which cables 13, 14 are wound have a diameter twice that of the part of the drum taking up the hoist-cable 2, the opposite ends of cables 13, 14 being fastened to the boom at the point of attachment of sheaves 15, 16. In a further modification, the sheaves 15, 16, Fig. 1, may be mounted directly on the boom 7 between the drum 12 and sheaves 9 whilst the sheaves 21, 22 could be longitudinally spaced on the boom in relation to the position of sheaves 15, 16, the sheaves 21, 22 being mounted on one or two extensions of the boom, preferably at the tip. As described, the boom is of ladder construction tapering towards its outer end. A small electric motor 23 may ensure positive lowering of the load hook if its own or an added weight is insufficient.
