Abstract

1,023,118. Builder's cranes. F. DURST. Aug. 10, 1964 [Aug. 8, 1963], No. 32463/64. Heading B8B. A builder's crane with a jib 31, Fig. 1, may be slewed by hand to bring a load 43 within reach of a building 2 thus causing a rocker 25 which supports the jib to pivot clockwise about a shaft 24 to a stable position from which there is no tendency for the jib to slew outwards. Sideways swinging of the load during hoisting is prevented by a spring 56, Fig. 2a, which holds a lug 54 against an adjustable pin 53. If the bucket 43 is raised too high a lever 42, through which the hoist rope passes, is raised to break an electrical circuit controlling the winch. The hoist rope 17 passes from the winch over a pulley 40, up through a slewing tube 29 and over pulleys 38, 37. The pulley 40 is mounted in a bracket 41 which is pivoted clockwise by a spring 44 when the rope 17 goes slack due to the load being set down, thus operating a switch which stops the winch. The winch 16, Fig. 1, is mounted on a rod 1 supported from the building by members 20, 22. The load is prevented from descending when the winch is stopped by self-locking worm-gearing in a gear-box between the motor and the winch. In addition, a brake belt 14 acts on a wheel 12 mounted on the motor shaft. The wheel 12 free-wheels whilst the motor is driving. The crane may be dismantled for transport.
