Abstract
962,427. Climbing tower cranes. F. W. SCHWING. Aug. 23, 1960 [April 28, 1960], No. 29064/60. Heading B8B. A climbing crane 6, Fig. 1, is raised by a pulley block system 16, 17, 18, connected to a support rope 12 at a point between a pair of pulleys 13, attached to the crane tower, around which the rope 12 passes as it extends between guiding support members 8. A pulley 14 provides the connection between ropes 12, 17. Alternatively, the rope 12 may be in two halves, the inner ends of which are attached to the ends of a beam pivoted to the pulley 16 at its mid point. As a further alternative a beam 28, Fig. 5, may carry two pulleys 14 round which two ropes 12 pass in a similar manner to that described with reference to Fig. 1. The pulleys 13 are mounted in a frame which detachably engages the bottom of the tower and can be lowered down the centre of the tower when the latter is extended by an additional section at the bottom. In addition to climbing up the floors 1, 2, 3, Fig. 1, of a building the tower may be raised within a sectional tower 35, Fig. 7. Additional sections 37 can be lifted to the top of the tower by the crane itself since the luffing jib has a trolley 38 which is moved in and out along the jib by ropes 39, 42 as the jib is raised and lowered, and the jib is pivoted at a point offset from the tower. Instead of the lifting rope 45 passing round a pulley 46 on the trolley as it passes down to the load hook it may pass directly thereto. Fig. 9 shows a level luffing arrangement in which the lifting rope 45 passes round a pulley 52 carried by a rope guide 51 which is pivoted on the tower at 51a and moved by an ancilliary rope and the winch 50 between positions 51 and 51<SP>1</SP> as the jib is luffed to produce level luffing. By the addition of a pulley half-way along the jib over which the lifting rope passes sections may be added to the top of the outer tower by this crane. The crane is assembled by erecting the tower 6, Fig. 6, and drawing up the jib by a rope 17 one end of which is attached to the tower at 33, the other end being wound on a drum 19. A pulley 16, round which the rope 17 passes, pulls down through a balancing pulley on a rope 12, opposite ends of which are attached to the jib at 35 and the top of the tower. Resilient inserts 26, Fig. 1, may be provided beneath supports 7, 10, 11.
